I began The Plot to Kill King with a certain amount of skepticism but heard the author interviewed on the radio and thought it worth reading. By the midpoint of the book the depth of research and investigative reporting swayed me to think otherwise and by the end of TPTKK, although I was not utterly convinced as to every aspect of the conspiracy (the St. Joseph’s Hospital section was not as well supported IMO) there was no doubt in my mind that MLK’s murder was not the effort of the hapless James Earl Ray, but a plotted assassination by multiple levels of government, the military, organized crime, and various law enforcement agencies. I shudder to think of how many people were involved that we don’t know about. Also disturbing are the implications of Jesse Jackson in the MLK murder, and connections of the one of the characters to Jack Ruby.Next time you take comfort in the fact that you don’t live in some third world country where threats to the powers that be are dealt with by death squads, read this book. Why the MLK assassination has not been reinvestigated is mystifying and shameful to a country that claims to be a leader in democracy and free speech. Every American should read this book.

Having read Pepper's other two books on the MLK assassination, I was a little apprehensive especially after reading one of the other reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pepper has submitted a substantial amount of new evidence in this book. Although he does rehash many of the facts already disclosed in his other books, he only does so in the context of supporting and augmenting his newly discovered facts about the plot. I would certainly not refer to this information as being extraneous. As an example of information that might be considered extraneous that I found to be profound and thought provoking, Pepper had an excellent discussion of the use of government disinformation. I would like to quote directly from his book some of the testimony given by William Schapp who gave expert testimony on governmental disinformation campaigns used by countries throughout history, "Schapp explained that a Harvard neurologist had helped him to understand the power of the neurological impact upon human cognizance, intelligence functioning, and reasoned decision making when the same story is told over and over again. The impact makes sense when the same story is told repeatedly. That impact makes the story a knee jerk part of the people who are exposed to it. Even if they are convinced on one occasion by powerful evidence to the contrary, the next day will usually find them reverting to the long held belief, which has become a part of themselves--often integral to their very identity. Nothing less than some sort of intense deprogramming experience with ongoing reinforcement is required." Having visited the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis several times, I found that Pepper's book was a fresh dose of deprogramming. As of my last visit to the Museum, there was not one mention of the civil trial in late 1999 (with Pepper representing the King family) in which Loyd Jowers and others, including several govt. entities, were shown to be guilty of the MLK murder (not James Earl Ray). There appeared to be plenty of space in the new "flophouse" addition to post the details of this trial that are essential to a truthful historical record.

I usually read fiction, but saw the notice about a book signing and looked the book up on Amazon. I found the synopsis interesting and thought I'd give it a try. The author is amazingly good. She draws the reader into her family's precipitous move to Vietnam with the sights, sounds, smells and wonderful personalities in her newfound neighborhood. She stays humorous about how precariously her family is balanced financially and how she copes in a country where she doesn't speak the language. Hope Ms. Esterhammer can write screenplays, because this story would make a great movie.

I'm so glad I bought this book! I actually bought two, one for me, and one for my mom. I just received it in the mail a couple days ago and I am already halfway through it. I can't put it down. It has me laughing out loud and is giving me all the good feelings. The author really portrays the essence of Vietnam and has officially given me the travel bug! She is honest, insightful and incredibly relatable. It's a great airplane read, beach read, late night read....everything read. I highly recommend it!

One of the most delightful books I've ever stumbled upon - with no knowledge of Vietnam other than "war", where too many of my age-group died, I had no idea what to expect of this memoir. But I hadn't read more than the first short - very short, actually - chapters before I realized I had come upon something very special, a book that inspires, entertains, enlightens and charms on virtually every page.Part of my delight, I'm sure, is that twice, I've packed up and moved to a foreign country - as a late-teen to Mexico, and as a 50-something, to Israel. In neither case did I have the local language before I went, so I encountered some of the same difficulties as did the author - although, thank goodness, mastering the various tones that define Vietnamese words wasn't something I had to deal with. I also had to find work, another similarity - but neither time did I have an autistic child with me, which offers a whole new layer of issues for this author.But what a delightful book it is! I know this is a book I will read over and over, no doubt finding new insights to inspire me, new things to giggle at, every time I read it. Don't miss this one - really!

Karin Esterhammer's very candid and intimate memoir was a joy and revelation to read. As an educator with over twenty years of teaching experience with adult literacy and ESL populations, I was excited to write a course description and syllabus using her book last semester for my adult ESL students in a pre-college continuing education program. My students, who came from over ten different countries were fascinated on why an American family had left the United States to live and work in Vietnam, when they had left their countries in search of a better life in America for them and their children. Ms. Esterhammer, who is a very detailed writer, humorously and with a great deal of patience, wrote a narrative that enthralled the students with wonder and understanding of traditional American values versus all of the linguistic and cultural differences of the people they encountered during their stay in Vietnam. This is one of the best travel memoirs I have encountered and ranks up their with the travelogues of Paul Theroux and Graham Greene.

This book is an absolute delight...I couldn't put it down! It warms the heart, enlightens you about the Vietnamese culture, and makes you simply adore Karin's resilience, insight, adaptability, flexibility and love. I went to her book signings in Pasadena and felt as if I knew the people in her presentation that she had written about. She reveals at once a childlike acceptance of her extremely different and challenging environment, as well as a keen discernment of the cultural, economic, and political circumstances that contributed to the shaping of it. What an ambassador of the United States she was!

I devoured Mrs. Esterhammer's book in just a couple days. I recently got back from Vietnam a couple weeks ago and fell in love with the country, it's people, the culture, the coffee, and the food. Granted, I bought the book due to it's subject matter, but I was so "happiness" to discover that the writing style of Mrs. Esterhammer is so wonderful and enjoyable. I laughed, cried, and felt so many emotions while reading her memoir that I was saddened when I completed the book. My wife is currently reading her memoir and it is so satisfying to hear my wife laugh and react to the book. I'm always asking her, "where are you at?" Long review short...buy this book and enjoy!

I almost never get on here just to make a review about anything. Period. However, I have taken this as necessary to fulfill my Instructor Responsibilities (it's in the AIH, look it up), and so I need to make this heard: This book really is necessary reading for any instructor. It reads like a very good novel, with a lesson to be learned with each story the author tells. It is memorable. Much more impressively, Arlynn's writing style would please any reader, knowledgeable of aviation or not, with the intent of becoming an instructor or not. The FAA should require students to supplement the Aviation Instructr's Handbook with this book. It incorporates every lesson from the AIH, yet is not nearly as dry or technical.To be clear, this should be used as a supplement to the AIH, not as a first-stop in learning about the psychology of learning. The AIH gives you the knowledge (dare I say, the rote and understanding levels) of the psychology of teaching, and thus should be the first thing any instructor should read. But, and let's be honest, the AIH is a HORRIBLE how-to guide to apply the psychology of teaching. I often wonder aloud why the FAA even requires instructor's to regurgitate something they have absolutely no idea how to use. I have fired my share of instructors that failed to use basic instructional principles. The AIH is well written; no one can argue that. But it falls short of the objectives it claims every instructor should have: to not stop at the rote and understanding levels of learning and teaching. Perhaps that is no accident. The FAA mustn't color its publications with too much humor and actual stories. But then there must be someone to pick up where it leaves off. That person is, thankfully, Arlynn. Arlynn's book ties all that knowledge from the AIH together so that you are able to recognize and remedy problems with your students. It thrusts you up to,dare I say it, the application and correlation levels of learning how to teach students. Reading Arlynn's book, I feel as though I have an experienced instructor standing in front of me telling me all of her secrets to teaching students. Doesn't the AIH say something about telling stories and making things memorable? In many aspects the FAA failed to follow their own philosophy, but Arlynn picked up where the AIH left off (HOORAY!!!).Don't pass over this book. You will regret it when your career is three quarters of the way through and you realize how you could have better served your students. That is what I imagine some teachers or instructors saying to themselves when they realize how they could have done better by their students. I was lucky enough to come across this book at the beginning of my career.

McMahon placed so much of what's important in flight instruction into a concise, easy to read book that used a great deal of humor in very well thought out chapters that made reading as fun as it was informative.I've been flying for decades now; reading this book not only made me feel like a better CFI, it made me want to visit her in KY to get some more lessons on self improvement.I can't imagine there is a flight instructor out there who wouldn't benefit from reading this book.

Well worth reading if you are an aspiring flight instructor. The author shares her experiences with broad range of flight students, good and bad, and links the stories to the fundamentals of instructing and the FAA's Aviation Instructor's Handbook. She does a good job of providing memorable real life examples of key concepts. Recommended.

Great book!! It can be used as a guide to build any type of RV from a teardrop to a fifth wheel and more. Granted there are so many different ways to build an RV that a single book couldn't cover it but this book comes close. It covers every aspect of building including chassis, tires, frames, electrical, heating , potable gray black water, this book has a lot of guidance.

There is a lot of good info here for those wanting a DIY camper. While I'm not sure about building my own at this time, I wanted to know about certain aspects of the build, and this book has a lot of information and pictures in it. The price was right for this level of manual.

Good design. Honestly described. Box is quite serviceable. Indexing is functional. I have enjoyed using them. Would that there was a companion set with another 500 signs.

ASL is my second language, and I find these flash cards to be very useful. While attending college, Flash cards were my main studying technique. So, these flash cards fit right into my studying / repetition habits nicely. I like how these flash cards have a color photo on the front with a visual representation of the sign and on the back have a writtin representation / explanation along with related words. Flash cards are handy and can be taken on the go.

I have been trying to learn sign language for a few years now using videos and books but these methods have failed me. I saw these flashcards on Amazon and decided to order because using flash cards have always helped me to learn. The cards come with a key chain like ring so you are not overwhelmed with 500 cards and can take a few cards and study on the go. The set up of each card makes it easy to study alone or with a group/partner.

I bought these flash cards about a month before starting a college ASL 1 class, thinking that it would be useful to know some basic signs before starting the course. Most of the practical and important words that I could think of were included in the cards; not all of them, but I wasn't expecting all of them to be there anyway. The pictures are clear and easy to understand, and the ASL signs that require motion have arrows pointing to the direction of the sign/indicating the movement you should be making. I also like that these are flash cards rather than cards that have both the word and the picture on one side because it allowed me to test my memory of how to sign the words. It was nice to know some signs before starting the class, and my professor taught us how to sign the words just like these cards show. I am currently in ASL 3, and I still reference these from time to time.

I have not yet put these to work in my ASL training but do have some feedback based on what I have seen so far.1. The punch hole in the cards is to thin/weak to expect they will hold up when using the included binder ring. If you are like me and like to have things like this on your person at all times so you can practice I see many cards getting loose, torn or lost, you may want to consider buying punch hole tape to firm up the attaching point.2. The box does not allow for peering in to see what you are looking for. You need to take a handful of cards out to rifle through to find what you are looking for. Definitely not intended to be used as a reference index but just for storage.3. Cards are flimsy, I would have preferred more substantial paper stock, what was wrong with using paper stock like playing cards? They would be a bit stiffer and have a coating to protect them. I was going to give these to my kids when I was done but not sure they (all) will hold up that long.4. I like that they cards are numbered so you can put them back in the right order.5. The pictures seem clear to understand and the arrows are also clear as to direction of movement.6. Have not yet concluded if all the words included are the must haves, that will be my first task since I want to incorporate these into my class lessons.Once I have had an opportunity to test drive these I will update my review.

These are Great! I only wish there were more! Wish there were different “chapters” or subjects they were grouped in! Quality is great, the instructions inside described stuff I didn’t even learn in ASL beginning classes, pictures are good. Sometimes the arrows are hard to understand the direction, but otherwise these are perfect. I want so many more words though so I had to make my own flash cards which were not nearly as great or compact. Even my deaf friend got them and loved them!

My daughter loves these cards - she willingly goes over them and memorizes the language almost every day. It teaches the basics of how to get along and speak to someone who is deaf. Of course the first thing she looked up were the dirty words, but thankfully, they were not included. If you want to say hello, and get the general idea of what someone is saying - I think it's 1/2 art and 1/2 science to these translations - then this is the set for you to quickly learn sign language. The cards are heavy duty and come on a ring so they are easy to flip through, but will not drop on the ground and make a mess.

I'm a teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and use this product for some of my lessons. The photos are large enough to view and I like the content on the back of each photo (term, definition, explanation of physical sign).It could use, however, a card or paper with a list of every sign included in the box. Although the cards are alphabetized with color coding for each letter visible from the side of the deck, you still have to thumb through all of the cards in that section to see if that sign is included in the box. An alphabetized list on one document our a couple cards would be helpful.Also, the term being signed (printed on the back with other information) is not in a large enough font to see from any distance but in your own lap. So if you are working with someone else, you always have to pass the card. You can't really use them as a flashcard - flashing the sign, and then the term on the otherside.The flashcards are hole punched and the box includes a metal ring the cards could be attached to, however the cards are not durable enough that they would last long on the metal ring.I like the product, but a list of terms and larger font would be nice.

Love this book! My son who is in kindergarten couldn’t read. But by week 7 in this book he can now read sentences. It teaches 3 new words every week and has you do 5 different things with the same words every week to help you remember them. Would give this book more stars if I could.

Love this book!! This book focuses on what are called "sight words" These are words that traditionally cannot be, or are hard to sound out. According to today's educationally standard, each Kindergartener is required to learn certain sight words. The goal of this workbook, by the end of each week to: (1) read, (2) write three new sight words and (3) understand their meanings.This book represented about 90% of the sight words my child was required to know by the end of her kindergarten year; each school district's list is slightly different. This book is a fair reflection of Kindergarten's sight words.The book has 180 days or 36 weeks of activities. The words and activities get progressively harder. Each week the book introduces three new sight words, such as "big", "when" and "there". The week's individual activities are as follows:(1) On the first day of the week, the child is introduced to and learns 3 sight words. Day 2, the child in expected to locate or find the words in a variety of ways, such as, a word search game. Day 3, the book provides creative and fun activities, such as "color all words yellow that are labeled "big"." Day 4, the child is directed to read a sentence and place the correct sight word in the _____ blank space within the sentence. And finally, day 5, the child is directed to compose one or two sentences using ALL the sight words. For example, write a sentence about the picture below using the words "big", "when" and "there".I began this book at the start of Kindergarten and was able to finish just before the end of the school year. My child's class did not start doing sight words until the end of the first semester, and they learned about 60 sight words during the year. Had I not started early she would not have completed the book by the time they were completed at school. They moved quickly!! I used this book to give her a head-start and to supplement her school's sight word list.

My 3 year old (soon to be 4) knew quite a few sight words when looking at flash cards, but often stumbled when she came across them in books. She loves the associated activities. I laminated the flash card pages and cut them out. We review them daily and I can honestly say her reading fluency has taken off. She is able to independently read most of the Bob Book collections and mini reads that come with the kindergarten homeschool curriculum she is working on. I’ll definitely be purchasing the 1st grade addition.

I use this for my daughter's home school. It helps her learn new vocabulary. She is learning all kinds of words!

Only been using 2 weeks and we are already seeing an improvement!!!

This book is great. I like the week by week format and the way it incorporates the words over the course of the lesson. I use it for homeschooling my 5 year old.

This is nice to have for my daughter on our summer road trips

Great book. I have enjoyed using it with my grandson. It is very well organized.
