Love these books. Funky old Florida. Can't beat the price.

I loved this book. But the problem is it was written in 1988, a lot has changed since 1988. In 2001 I went to just every place in the South west Florida book, there were only a few places that could not be found. Some were not much there, but had history behind them. Usually I would make my trips to include 3 sights in one drive.

What a pile of crap. She writes about places that don't exist, she uses cutsie italics in an inappropriate manner, and in general demonstrates a total lack of her subject matter. One wonders if she even visited half of them.Pile o crap.

This book is a well-researched project covering the search/discovery of William Carroll's place of birth during the occupation of the Philippines by the Japanese during World War II. It is a well-reported story of the conditions during the first three years of William's life and his parents and siblings as prisoners in the Philipines. All the Americans and others were non-combatants but were treated as if they were combatants by the Japanese. It tells of the courage and bravery of Bill's parents as well as the other prisoners. It highlights the hopes/fears of all as they awaited the return of General MacAuthur to set them free. It is well worth the money and your time to read this book. It concludes with the events leading up to the author's family trip to the place of her husband's birth and the wonderful experiences they had on the journey.
