I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, but I've been living in the USA for some time now and I was looking for a book that I could recommend to foreigners interested in visiting or moving to my country of origin. This book has a lot of information on our culture and customs, but honestly you could find most of it for free on the Internet.You should only buy this book if you are in a hurry and don't want to spend the time searching on the web or if you would like to have that information handy. But if you're not in a hurry please save the money and spend one hour searching on the web.Besides that, please take with a huge gulping of salt the brief historical information provided. The authors twice claim that baseball was introduced by invading US Marines, which is such an egregious mistake that you have to wonder how well researched is the rest of the book. Baseball was introduced by Cubans fleeing war in their island in the 1880-1890s and the country oldest baseball club (the Licey Tigers) was founded in 1907, mine years before the 1916 US invasion.If you care about the history that helps to provide context on why the Dominican people are who they are today, stay away from this book.

I have lived in the Dominican Republic for over 22 years and find this book to be very accurate in its description of the Dominican nation, people and culture. For both tourists wanting to know more about the Dominican Republic and foreigners who come to live and work in the country, this book is an excellent tool. The authors communicate great understanding of the Dominican culture and also show great respect for the Dominican people. The book is extremely practical too helping the reader to understand a variety of cultural situations such as visiting in homes, family life, using public transportation, food, etc. It is extremely well written and enjoyable to read. It is like having a conversation with a good friend with excellent cultural insights. I highly recommend this very interesting and practical book.

As a native of the Dominican Republic and more recently an American Dominican this read was accurate in every way! Well done indeed! Highly recommended for travellers and Dominican Americans raised by Dominican parents. This book gives a deeper understanding of every facets of Dominican lives.

Good book

I'm leaving for the DR in a week on a 17d trip and wanted to get some insight as to the lay of the land & what to expect. I've only flipped through it a few times but already I find it useful and the language translation with key phrases is a great thing to have. I'll be back packing solo so I'm happy to know how to negotiate a motoconcho ride before I get on and remember to get on from the left side so you don't end up with an exhaust pipe burn on your leg!

Informative and useful. I've been once on mission and ready to return and found this helpful to be more comfortable with the culture.

Pretty good for what it is, but I was looking for a different kind of guidebook -- more historical and topographical, and it didn't really fit the bill.

I took the TABE this morning. Level A computer based test! I knocked it it out of the park. Hadn't picked up an academic book in over 15years since graduating high school and made 12.9+ score on Language, Reading & especially MATH!! This book really lays it out for you and gives you the practice you need. Take the time and go through the book, you won't regret it!!

I bought this book and a couple of others to help my son study for his upcoming TABE test. This book wasn't helpful at all. The information in it was all over the place and ridiculously frustrating. He had much better success with the Mometrix TABE Secrets Study Guide and another book called TABE Practice Questions. Donated this book to our garbage can.

I didn't know what to expect from the test, so i bought this book. I looked over a little bit of the reading and a little of the math part. The book does cover good basic things learned from grade school through high school. Overall I didn't need this book at all. I over worked myself up for the TABE test that was super easy for me.

Excellent book. I decided to take some classes at age 30 having been out of school all these years and i needed to take the Tabe exam. Nothing could have prepared me better. The book does amazingly well taking you back to high school and brushing off all the knowledge in a very efficient and approachable manner. The theory is easy to follow and the examples are spot on. A lot of useful exercises to practice as well. I aced the test because of this book going from 0 to 10 in just 3 days of studying.

i needed to take a TABE test for school and i have not been in a formal school setting in almost 20 years. i was concerned with the MATH portion since there are not to many occasions that i have the opportunity to divide fractions and such. i aced my test with two 12.9 scores, so this book worked for me and should work for you too. the TABE test that i took for the state of Florida separated the categories. example: 25 MATH questions in 25 minutes, without a calculator. just from brushing up on my skills with this book i was able to correctly guess at some of the answers since i was running out of time. i would not have been able to make an educated guess that was correct prior to using this book.

The book does a poor job explaining how to tackle the math problems, it assumes you already have your own way of doing them and it asked you to practice it. It tells you what you have to do to solve the problem but it doesn't really tell you really how to go about it..again it assumes you already know, once they explain the objective of the math problem. If you are taking the TABE and you want to buy this book, but barons GED book too.....barons explains indeph how to attack the problems.. This book is only good for its diagnostic exams..

I had to take the TABE test before I could start teaching GED in my retirement. This was a great warm-up and so handy for review of some math functions I haven't thought about since high school.

This book is the worst text book I have every utilized. It is loaded with information you don't need, and finding the information you do need is extremely difficult. I found it so frustrating that I purchased another book to replace it.

He was born in Linz, Austria in 1899 and died in 1983 in Graz.Editor Hartmut Heine was appointed Professor of Anatomy at the University of Wurzburg Germany in 1976 and in 1982 became full professor at Witten/Herdecke University. Currently residing near Stuttgart, Germany, Heine is a Doctor of Natural Sciences focused on comparative anatomy.Translator Ingeborg Eibl studied music and pre-med at McGill University and later graduated from New York Chiropractic College and Ontario College of Naturopathic Medicine. Happy that this book was translated! Full of very interesting research that has the ability to change one's perspective.

This book is very important to our ever evolving understanding of how our bodies work and how best to care for them.

Being a manual therapist and reading the previous reviews I had my hopes up that I'd finally get a good understanding of the ECM and how it relates to manual therapy. This book doesn't do it. It does have some interesting research that I haven't come across elsewhere and some interesting strands of physiology. A lot of the book seems more directed to acupuncturists, though I have no training in the field so I can't say if this book is valuable in that regard or not. Unfortunately the book doesn't give a clear presentation of the subject matter itself. The text isn't well arranged and at times it is hard to understand why the writer is going on about certain topics. Some of the physiology is reviewed on a quite superficial level whereas others delve so deep into the biochemical and biophysical mechanisms that with my background were hard to comprehend and I have a fairly good understanding of basic physiology. There are a lot of references to different modalities that aren't that well known internationally e.g. neural therapy and these modalities aren't reviewed thoroughly. There is a chapter on neural therapy but it is placed in the last part of the book (while it is discussed on many occasions in the early chapters) and doesn't really offer much understanding to someone who has no previous experience in it. Furthermore before you actually read the book you get the impression that this is Alfred Pischinger's work - it isn't. It most likely relies on groundwork done by Pischinger but in the actual book you get a few measly paragraphs that are actually written by him. Practically all of the book is written by the other writers.

If only American medical doctors could grasp the concept that extracellular matrix (read as connective tissue or myofascia) is a very important body wide communication system that helps regulate processes important to our individual health. This concept could help in diagnosis of disease.

Despite the abundant bibliographic references, which though appropriate and thorough, make for a thicker reading experience, this book is a tour de force that compels one to expand any previous perspectives concerning the meaning of excellent health in the human body. A must for anyone interested in or involved in any healing art.

Dr. Pischinger has solved the mystery of the Traditional chinese medicine"s Acupuncture point.This paves the way for the BioInformation medicines that we we shall see in the near future.

This book saved me during my Maternity & Child Rotation in nursing school. I think my professor used this book as a reference especially the NCLEX style questions. I found the chapter on congenital cardiac problems especially helpful because it was easy to understand with nice pictures. I also loved the growth & development chapter which clearly outlined all the Erickson & Piaget theories. There are 15 chapters in this book covering all the different body systems. I love how this book gets right to the point giving you the information that you need to know without all the extra fluff found in a text book. On the CD there are 10 pre-test, 10 post-test, and 30 extra NCLEX questions per chapter( that's 50 NCLEX questions per chapter). I don't love how the CD is laid out but the questions are very good. Overall this is an excellent reference and study aid for pediatrics.

I got this book to review some things for NCLEX and it is EXCELLENT. It is well -organized into the systems of the body and also labs and physical assessment and then presents each issue in an outline format which is easy to read and gives you the important information that you will need to focus on for testing or just to refresh your knowledge. It also give Priority Nursing Diagnosis and what to do a focused assessment on. It was highly recommended by my advisor to some students. I am planning to purchase some of the other Reviews & Rationale books after I finish this one.

great resource for nursing school

This whole series is helping me pass nursing school. It outlines everything in a neat order. The answers to the questions have rationales for the right AND wrong answers and tells you which words to watch for so you can answer those wonderful Nursing school test questions.

The study CD is missing, and this may be my fault, I may have missed that in the description.That being said, my student daughter is happy to have this for her course work.

Excellent book for paediatrics course in nursing school and for further reading afterward.

Great review book. Has essential information.

This book is a life saver!!! I raised my grade 5 points with this book and that's a lot for nursing school! I also used this book to study for the NLN pediatric state test and I scored 8 points above the national average, when my school was below the national average. It really helps you learn the material, instead of just memorize, and it tells you everything you need to know about nursing care, patho and key terms. If I had this book at the beginning I would have received an A in pediatrics. The first book I bought was NCLEX-RN pediatric nursing made easy and that did not help me at all in my pediatrics course.

I have been to Italy years ago, and spent a month there, and in that time I thought I had done all I could to leave feeling like I had immersed myself in the culture and lifestyle enough to know the country. It took a lot of time, a lot of money, and still many days were lost to navigational confusion (ROME, I'M LOOKING AT YOU), poor planning, language barriers, and tourist traps. The most significant parts of my time there happened organically, in often overlooked interactions with real people, at beautiful places not frequented by the average tourist. I recall being embarrassed at one point after noticing heavy Americans walking around shirtless or in tank tops and cargo shorts a the Duomo sites in Florence, speaking in a loud condescending tone to people who didn't respond to them in English. Gross. I had to make a lot of tourist mistakes in that month to find a real connection with the beauty that is Italy. What Corinna has done with this book is beyond valuable. She has condensed her years and years of extensive and continuing knowledge of Italy into an easily accessible guide which allows anyone with travel sense and decorum to truly immerse themselves in the beauty of Italy, as well as experiencing the kindness of it's people. She's been everywhere, knows everything, and knows almost everyone. This lady has stories... and you can feel her love for the country in the pages of this book. If you want to have an authentic experience, not just "a trip", this is the book for you. But if you do go, and you are American, please behave. Have reverence. Be respectful. Be kind... Shirt and shoes required.

I don't think I have ever met a person who loves Italy as much as Corinna. And it is apparent on every page. She appears to live, breathe and be the very essence of all things Italian. While reading, I think what I found most valuable and so amazing is that she really does share her secrets with us! She covers so much, and yet it wasn't overwhelming. It's a simple read, informative, practical, and is sprinkled with humor which I love. My husband and I are traveling to Italy to visit family towards the end of this year, and the timing of me finding this book couldn't have been any better. I found the chapters on Airport Tricks and What to Do When Things Go Wrong quite helpful. And since we are planning on eating and drinking our way through Italy, her chapters on How to Order Coffee, Drinking Wine in Italy and How to Choose a Restaurant will be ones we will refer back to I am sure. If I could jump on a plane today I would...with this e-book in my carry-on bag (and a perhaps a better chance of being upgraded than I would have had, now knowing not to travel in my pajamas!) A brilliant book. So glad I purchased.

This guide seems to have two strengths: sneaky tips for making general international travel easier, cheaper and more glam; and advice on how to see the real, romantic Italy (the one of your dreams - not the queues at the colosseum and the nightmare of driving through Rome, but the tiny restaurant, serving perfect handmade pasta, hosted by a jovial Italian chap, which only the locals know about). This author divulges her secrets so generously. Her love for Italy is so obvious. This must be as close as you can get to travelling with the author to Italy, without actually joining one of her exclusive glam tours (oh, I wish!!! Maybe one day...)Highly recommended if you want the inside scoop to seeing more of Italy than the tourist trail. (And fun to read vicariously as an armchair traveller too.) Sounds like bliss!

This book could not have come at a better time! I have been dreaming of a trip to Italy for YEARS and now it's actually happening. As excited as I was to book this trip, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed on where to even start. Thanks to this gem of a book, I'm not overwhelmed any more. Being such an easy read and very helpful tips I have been able to book my flight, find AMAZING places to stay and feel more comfortable with my chosen itinerary. I'm taking the book with me! lol Corrine knows her stuff and I am so grateful for her and this book. Grazie Mille!!

No likes here, just a waste of money. Appears she got all her Glam friends to write a review and give her 5 stars. Book defined the word "superficial". Author gave me 30 pages on how to fly to Europe and how to cope with jetlag, 20 pages about Italian food, wine and coffee, 10 pages on pickpockets and get this 10 pages on using the bathrooms and how to use cell phones. If you have been to Europe, in fact any flight of over 4 hours you know to drink plenty of water, lay off the caffeine, and don't drink alcohol. There is nothing in this book about first time visitors what to see, what to do. It's also filled with another 10 pages of blank pages and pencil artwork. There .is also no index, not that you even need one. Didn't have to use my hi-liter pen, nothing really to hi lite. Took me only two hours to read it. You could have changed it to "Glam France" or "Glam Greece" and modified a few pages , it would have been the same i.e. how to fly, bathrooms, cellphones jetlag, etc. On a positive note, it's well written unlike the garbage book on Costa Rica I bought last year! In summary save your money and buy one of the popular books on Italy.

I have never been to Italy, and do plan on getting there someday very soon. Reading Glam Italia! placed me right on the streets of the “non-touristy” side of the Italy I never knew I wanted to experience. With wonderful anecdotes and stories of all of her travels, Corinna really opened my eyes to a new way to travel- not as a tourist, but as a native. She shared Italy in beautifully descriptive language making me feel as if my best girlfriend was alongside me helping plan this trip to have the most positive and pleasant experience ever! Tips of both practical nature and tips to enhance ones basic travel needs were interwoven in the delightful down to earth tone of the book.I will absolutely be re-reading this book as I delve into my planning and pulling it out once I am in Italy!

Probably the only Revit Architecture book that I'd give 5 stars, and yes, I've read them all. Not only will you get the correct steps, but you'll understand why. It's not that you won't get good information from the others, but if I were to purchase one Revit book it would be this one. This book is huge and at first intimidating as the author knows plenty and is not afraid to dive deep on the tools that are available through Revit. However, his illustrations are bar-none clean and the text follows the illustrations in an insanely clear matter. This author also includes plenty of software to work the examples for each Chapter. I am extremely impressed with the author and having read 1/8 of the total book, I can tell the remaining portion will be just as fun! Hope this helps someone out there.

Great resource!! Appreciate the data sets to easily follow along. Love Paul's training style and ability to break down to bite size pieces to understand and put in to a workflow that makes sense. I recommend this to anyone new to Revit and for Intermediate Levels. Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know. Paul is very thorough!

This book is exactly what I'd been hoping to find; a clear streamlined process to create projects. There are a few cases where the directions aren't as user-friendly as needed but most of them I just needed to slow down and read ALL the text.

I used this book in my introductory college class on Revit. It was a perfect introduction to this rather complex program. We found very few errors and the students were able to work through most of it without needing to be "rescued".

GREAT book for the beginner REVIT user. This book walks you through everything step by step.

I have found Paul Aubin's book to be quite helpful. I have purchased other books on Revit, but in my opinion, this one is the best by far.
