"Rock Harbor" is a series; a continuation from book to book. Some series resolve at the end of each installment but others leave lots of loose ends. There is a relationship "cliff hanger" at the end of Book 2, so to know who is chosen, it will mean reading at least Book 3 unless it is dragged out even longer.It's also hard to imagine that little, remote Rock Harbor, MI, is going to have so many life threatening crises for Bree, the amateur detective, to help solve. And that also means her life will be in danger at least 4 more times. Yikes.The series is exciting and the bad guys are usually a surprise. Some of the characters are beginning to grow on me, so the lure of book 3 is stronger.The Kindle version is a HOT MESS, but that's not the author's fault.

Frantic story. So much happens, it is not even remotely plausible nor were some of the situations. It was as if the plot for several different books were condensed into one and by the end of the entire process, I almost didnt even want to finish. Have read two other books by this author that were not this bad. And personally, I did not find the redemptive Christian aspect strong, it was much more focused on the horrific things far too many people in this small town were doing. The only reddeeming hope, a love interest, was never resolved and even that fell apart. Late night read? Not for me.

YESSSSSSSS! I love this series! Bree continues in this second book, finding a dead body that was sealed in her basement wall. Huh?! Meanwhile, strange thefts, break-ins and a domestic violence case happen, which leaves Bree and Kade wondering if they are all related. There is plenty of suspense, and just the right amount of romance between Bree and Kade, that makes this story perfect. Although the case gets solved at the end, there is a little bit of a cliff hanger that for sure makes you want to download the next book in the series right away!

"Beyond a Doubt" is a well-written Christian mystery novel that takes place in the small town of Rock Harbor in Michigan's gorgeous Upper Peninsula. To classify it as a Romantic-Suspense novel was very misleading, in my opinion, since there is only a touch of romance and little suspense. No mention was made of the Christian aspect of the novel in the book description, even though it is integral to the story and characters. While this made the novel more appealing to me, it may not to others, and either way it should be known before purchasing.Next, the book description said this was about a dog search-and-rescue team, so I was expecting a little more than I got from "Beyond a Doubt." That could be my fault: nowhere did it say that the story would go in-depth about search-and-rescue, but I guess that's what I expected, and definitely not what I got. It's true that Bree, the main character, and her dog Samson, do search-and-rescue missions a few times in the book, and that she runs a training center to train other dogs and their owners. However, these scenes are simply described, and if you are hoping to learn anything about how it works, you will be disappointed. So, if that is what drew you to the book (like it did me), I must tell you there is no emphasis on it, and I think you will be disappointed.Although I was expecting a romantic-suspense novel, I was easily drawn into the small town life and characters in "Beyond a Doubt." There is an existing relationship between the main character, Bree, and a park ranger, Kade. They exchange a couple of chaste kisses, much like a couple who has been together a long time (I don't know how long they've been together), hugged a few times, shared a few meaningful looks, and that's the extent of the romance between Bree and Kade. I'm not spoiling anything here, because there's nothing to spoil . . . you'll see if you read the book what I mean. There is a wedding and a teenage relationship, but again . . . no romance. In fact, every relationship in the book with any potential for romance, was somehow reduced to something else. As long as you didn't have your heart set on a romance, though, it's okay, because the characters and the story will keep you interested.There are several mysteries layered on throughout the book, and these, combined with the characters, are the heart and strength of the book. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm not going to even hint at any of the mysteries. Rock Harbor is your typical small town, so the characters are close to each other in one way or another, and Coble gives each of them their own worries and problems, which either adds to character development, the mysteries, or both. She kept a great pace, keeping your interest by switching between characters and scenes with excellent timing. While I wouldn't call it suspenseful, it was captivating.Coble wraps up the mysteries nicely, but I was disappointed to be left hanging in regards to the characters. Unless their issue directly related to the mystery, it went unresolved. There are several situations I wanted some sort of resolution to by the end of the book, but the characters and I didn't get it. I'm kind of peeved. I assume there is a sequel, but I'm not happy that I have to buy another book to find out what happens even a little bit.On a completely technical note, my Kindle version had some annoying formatting problems. Every couple of pages, part of the page would be reduced to very small type, indented both right and left, much like when you quote a long passage. I'm curious if others had the same problem...

So many Christian novels are pure fluff. I enjoy a book with some meat to it. This had some suspense though a bit predictable. It kept me reading. Many books I will give about two chapters and if I don't look forward to picking it back up will just be shut forever. It a book doesn't have at least a 4 1/2 star review I won't purchase it.It wasn't the greatest book I've read but I would read anything from this author. It was well worth reading.I have brief exposure to search and rescue dogs through a friend who has had several. So I liked the references to them. I also love the north woods and winter. The book spoke to me.

The book was more mystery than romance which would not be all bad if there was a happily ever after. There wasn't. At least not in this book. The only thing that kept me from being furious with the ending was knowing the happily ever after comes in the next book in the series. As far as the mystery, it was good. It was almost at the end before I figured it out. Okay, kinda figured it out. As for Nick the fireman, REALLY dislike him! Getting a little tired of Davy's whining. I know. Unfair. He's just a child. Moving on to book 3 in the series.

I LOVE this series! Mystery, suspense, plot twists all make for an exciting read! I also enjoyed learning more about animals being used for search and rescue. I highly recommend!

This book is another of Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor series and is another "can't put it down" books. It keeps one constantly waiting for the next crisis and trying to figure out who the perpatrators are. The romance is woven throughout the book and satisfies the "romantics" reading the book. All in all, it is another masterpiece for Colleen Coble and I would recommend it to everyone. Her faith in God is also woven thoughout the book and is helpful for all of us.

This is one of the most entertaining titles in comics now. I am of the strong belief that this is Rick Remender's best work. Unlike so many ongoing series, Deadly Class is set with actual dates and locations. Volume one begins in the the fall of 1987. This volume takes place in the fall of 1988. The artists on the book have accurately captured the furniture, dorm rooms, clothes, cars and mood of the era.As we saw in earlier volumes, Remender has no problem killing off both minor and major characters. The end of volume 4 was actually shocking. Volume 5 takes place a few months later as the students at the incredibly dangerous high school for assassins have moved into the next academic year. There is a new class of freshmen from around the world - they fall into a number of stereotypes, but the characters are still interesting and occasionally amusing.So much of Remender's other work (Low, Black Science particularly) contains psychobabble that he has picked up in dealing with his own issues (I'm not criticizing his own experience with depression, but rather his overt attempts to work it out in his writing in over the top fashion). Thankfully, this book does not suffer from any of that. He allows his skill for plot and dialogue and character development to rise and take hold - if he can do this in his other work, he will have turned a very significant corner in his maturation as a writer.

Remender (aided beautifully by Wes Craig) does a fantastic job introducing a new class of students. But what makes this book over the top fun is that it has the audacity to have a quote the 1980's Conan the Barbarian film throne in at such an epic moment.

Fantastic continuation of the already fantastic story. I was worried the absence of key characters would leave me feeling empty, but the new characters are just as captivating and interesting.

Great story

Great twist at the end. There always seems to be something to keep me interested in each volume.

if you are interested in palm landscaping, working with palms and using them commercially or simply for your home- this is the book. Plenty of useful information on a large variety of species. Great, concise information. highly recommend it.

I bought this book a few years ago for my parents' second home in Panama, so we could identify and choose the right palms we wanted for landscaping their new home. It's been a great resource and for palms, I haven't found others that compare. I like the great layout/format of each page with its simplicity, all the necessary information provided for choosing the right palm, and the photos. (Be sure to look inside) It gives the description and habits of each palm, growing conditions and tolerances, problems to be aware of, and other helpful tips with great photos to identify just the right palm for the right location. Based on the information given we chose 6 or more of these palms that fit the location on the property for the needs and aesthetics we wanted... lining the driveway, camouflaging unsightly views of neighboring properties, views from the house, and specimens to highlight in parts of the yard. (I'm back to buy another great tropical plant guide as a gift for our tropical nursery friend, but may buy this one as a gift too.)

This is a very informative book for any palm enthusiast. All the important information (scientific and common names, height, growth rate, origin, & USDA hardiness zone) is above the wonderful color photographs of each palm, followed by a more detailed description below. This reference is a must have for any horticulture professional.

Illustrated well and very informative. If you like books and palm trees then I guess this is for you; 'cause I mean...it's a book about palm trees.

This was a great book, except for that it arrived damaged. The book was packaged poorly, and arrived with multiple indentations all over the cover. I did email the seller with my complaints and received no correspondence back.

Betrock's Landscape Palms is just what I needed. I live in Miami and my yard already has an assortment of palms. I love palms and wanted to add more and different palms to my landscape. Without overwhelming me with every palm on earth, this book gave me a good selection of palms with needed information to make the right choice. Easy to ready and plenty of pictures I highly recommend it if you are interested in palms for any reason.

I recently bought this book for my 7-year old son and I am reading it aloud to him. When I first presented it to him, he wanted no part of it. The familiarity of the Nike logo on the cover got it through. We are only halfway through right now, but it has been an enjoyable experience! It has elicited a lot of unexpected questions from him about world locales, World War II and Business. Now he is asking for me to read it to him before bed!I have learned a lot myself about Phil Knight’s journey and am always ready to read the next chapter! I will definitely be picking up the standard edition to see what else is included.

For an anti-inflammatory cookbook that acknowledges nightshade sensitivities/allergies in its introductory section, there is quite a lot of nightshades in most of these recipes.This is, of course, a concern for someone like myself who was hoping to find a good source of recipes that cater to many food sensitivities. Myself being nightshade sensitive, there are recipes that include tomatoes and peppers, for example, that she offers to omit, however, she doesn't mention to omit the chipotle peppers within that same recipe. Aren't chipotle peppers also nightshades?Or curries that she suggests to omit the curry powder/paste for nightshade intolerant readers. But omitting the ingredients that make it curry, seems unappealing to me. You might as well offer "flavorless curry" to the nightshade sensitive readers. Or just say "hey, don't make this if you've got a nightshade intolerance."Admittedly, I haven't made anything from this cookbook yet. But browsing the recipes, I've found myself a little disappointed. One recipe titled "Pan-Seared Mushrooms with Caramelized Shallots," had instructions where the shallots were only added to the pan towards the last 90 seconds of cooking. That's not... caramelization though? That's just sautéed shallots. Which is fine. But why not just call it what it is? Anyway, moments like this make me question the quality of the recipes.Basically, I was looking for a book that catered to multiple food sensitivities, without feeling like you were sacrificing the flavor of a dish as a result.This seems like a good option for gluten and dairy free folks. But for those of us who have multiple food sensitivities, we can probably find a better source elsewhere.Basically, I feel like, if you're going to title something "anti-inflammatory cookbook," it should include recipes that cater to ALL the major inflammation triggers listed in the introductory segment of this book.

Excellent, practical recipes with flavor in mind. Modern, contemporary choices along with old favorites. Recipes clearly written. 'Make aheads' alone worth it for convenience & speed. I now have quinoa/black bean, greens, avocado, egg breakfast bowls rather than cereal & love them. I plan a weeks menu & precook what I can. Have lost 14 lbs so health 'works'. Written for our busy world certainly but also for someone willing to take an extra step towards better nutrition/health. My book is now filled with post-it notes & annotations. Only suggestion I'd make is to give serving size & calorie count for recipes in addition to the number of servings one makes. I'm filling that in as I make recipes. An excellent addition to cookbook collection.

First, the good--a nice collection of flavorful recipes, which are (mostly) simple and quick to prepare and which rely on fresh, healthful ingredients. A variety of ethnic cuisines are represented in the collection, from Country Captain (American South) to Breakfast Bibimbap (Korean) to Mexican and so on. The author's style is conversational and accessible; the recipes are well presented and the copy is easy to read. Good information is given on efficient meal planning, and this cookbook will allow a cook of any level to expand his or her repertoire with a minimum of effort and good results.The caveats: While the book does give some sound fundamentals on nutrition (avoid processed food, e.g.), a lot of what is presented is not well supported by science. This is not necessarily the fault of the author--nutrition is still an under-researched and often poorly understood science, and recent research (Cell, Nov. 19) suggests that individual reactions may vary greatly to identical foods, making accurate and reproducible research even harder. Plus nutritional trends come and go (low-fat! no-carb! Oat bran! Hypoglycemia! Probiotics!) and information tends to snowball and take on a life of its own, whether there is clinical data to support it or not.A great deal of the advice given in the book is anecdotal, unique to the author and in some cases some of her friends and family. But what is true for her may not be true for every reader. The Arthritis Foundation's guidelines on an anti-inflammation diet, for example does not mention omitting gluten. But because the author is gluten-sensitive, none of the recipes in the book contain gluten. Ditto dairy. I was also hoping for some new recipes to prepare the oily fish (sardines, anchovies, trout, salmon) that are recommended for an anti-inflammation diet because of the Omega-3 oils they contain. There are three recipes for oily fish, but nothing (Salade Nicoise, Seared Ahi Tuna) that couldn't be found elsewhere.As a teacher, one of the early lessons I got in disseminating information was that the methods that worked for me as a learner are not necessarily effective for everyone I'm teaching. That's my main critique of the stated purpose of this book; the author seems to have a number of food allergies, and cooking to avoid these particular allergies appears to have diminished her inflammation. But extrapolating her results to a larger audience, and calling it an "Anti-Inflammation Cookbook" is a bit of a stretch. I think better truth in advertising would have been to call it The Food Allergy Cookbook. If it had been, I probably wouldn't have bought it--but then I would have missed out on some good recipes.It's still a book I'd recommend, but not for medical reasons.

This is a great cookbook with interesting recipes. If you are looking to cut inflammation in your body try the recipes in this book. Also, eliminate all sugars for 30 days and see how you feel. I did it and the elimination of sugar helped reduce the pain from my arthritis.

OK, there are four stars on this review but at times it was going to be five, and at times it was going to be three, so you can call it what you wish. I will tell you what I liked and what drove me up the wall.Five stars: Lennon, a seriously altruistic and also very ethical character with the heart and soul of a true journalist--other than he somehow overlooks the fact that his budding relationship with Ollie is a roaring conflict of interest. That his is not very much smaller than Ollie, and that he is not on the cover but vividly described as looking like a blond Clark Kent, is refreshing in an era when big muscular tatted hunks like Ollie fall in lust with little guys.Three stars: The cover. Please, that's supposed to be pro hockey player Ollie. I know one or two things about hockey players (mostly Canadians but Ollie is from Boston), and I don't think there are too many built like this or covered in as many tatts. Just too extreme.Five stars: When it happens, the sex is sizzling.Three stars: Ollie is totally and completely obsessed with Lennon as a sexual object for too long that he risks being a cardboard character.Five stars: The integration of the MC's from the first two books--Maddox and Damon, Matt and Noah--and new characters with books to follow--Jet & Soren, Talon & Miller--holds the book together with a community of mutual interests and savvy insights.Three stars: Ollie's well meaning but overbearing parents and four moose-like brothers. Just too much testosterone and condescension.Add it up. I liked it enough to make an effort to get the author's other MM books, but most importantly to pounce once the next two in this series are published in a sub-series.

3.5 stars. Maybe even 3.75 stars. I think Deke might be my favorite in the series yet, though the banter in Trick Play was better. Either way, Deke is all heart. I like how the author chose to out Lennon -so to speak- as a journalist early on. The easier route would’ve been to keep the ruse going and I think most authors would have made that choice. It felt like Lennon and Ollie were on equal footing, their chemistry was insane without being unbelievable. Ollie’s family was made up of such unique characters and yet they worked as a family.This book made me think the way none of the other books in the series have. How much does a person “owe” society his or her coming out? We’ve all been guilty of speculating who’s in the closet and who isn’t. Just because our heart is in the right place and we are ready to wave that rainbow flag, what is coming out really like for the person going through it? I’d hate to think of reactions to someone’s coming out being non favorable, but isn’t that the reality? I can’t even imagine people saying the flippant things they say about something that’s so deeply personal, something that is so interwoven with your character.Scratch that. I’m giving this 4 stars. For making me think. For daring to address a subject no author (to my knowledge) has been willing to tackle so far.

The story of nerdy sports journalist Lennon and closeted hockey player Ollie. Lennon and Ollie's story fits nicely into the fake boyfriend universe, while covering fresh new ground. The development of Lennon and Ollie's relationship was great-- they have amazing chemistry when they first meet... until Ollie finds out that Lennon is the sports reporter he loathes. I would give this novel five stars just for Lennon, because I love his character so much. It was refreshing to read a romance with a realistic journalist-athlete dynamic and I'm glad the novel acknowledged that dating an athlete could harm Lennon's career as a sports journalist. Ollie's struggles with his over-supportive family were also a fresh and interesting twist on a coming out story. I loved his growth as a character throughout the novel and how his relationship with Lennon helped him stand up to his family. I also loved the supporting characters. Lennon's friendships with Jet and Noah are everything. Can I apply to live in Noah's townhouse with them? Please?

I wish we got to know a little more about Lennon's background; nevertheless his geeky look and personality are just the perfect match for the brawny Ollie. 😍 Ollie confides to Lennon (in a moment of vulnerability) about being gay and his need for a fake boyfriend to ward off his overtly supportive family.. and this leads to a case of mistaken identity for Ollie. Lennon pretends to be Ollie's fake BF "Clark" in front of his family but does not disclose to Ollie that he is a sports journalist, thinking that they would never meet again. But destiny intervenes when months later, Ollie has been traded to play for an NY team and Lennon is the journalist writing critical articles about Ollie's play. Their paths cross and after the initial arguments and clarification, the undeniable chemistry between the two proves to be too much and they begin a not-so-fake relationship. 🔥💕What happens when Ollie's family finds out?😱 Will Ollie be outed to NHL and the world or will Lennon hide his relationship with Ollie? 😳 😉 Not gonna spoil it for anyone.. but want to say that it was another awesome book in this Fake Boyfriend series.. and I highly recommend it 👍Can't wait for Talon and Miller's story.... 💘
