Good reference book, I collect pewter and was kind of disappointed there wasn't much pewter in it, mostly silver, the book was good quality and had good picturers

After the first five chapters maybe, it became really predictable what was going to happen. The other characters were just a perk. Honestly, after I found out who the players were, I stopped reading. I'd have preferred it if I didnt found out who was behind all the setting up of people until closer to the end.

Alot of errors in book. I recommend that you use keto friendly apps to recheck the nutritional facts which is so inconvenient for me. This book is low carb but many recipes are not keto friendly so that is also inconvenient but also, misleading because I wanted specifically KETO. For example, the egg sandwich which is the first recipe has 19.1g of Carbs. I actually think this is a grammatical error because based off of just looking at the ingredients, that just cant be accurate. I checked in my keto app and it was 7g of carbs which is a big difference from 19.1g. Also, many errors in the directions in some of the recipes which have missing steps. Just too much going on. Better off saving your money abs googling recipes. Many of the reviews have to be fake...

So I've been doing keto for 7-8 months now and love it. I recently got an instant pot and thought hey let's get some keto instant pot books! I think Amy (writer) meant well, but this one is a big miss.When I get a recipe book, I expect info.. Like serving sizes. None are listed on any recipes. Also ingredients option are super general. Like "mixed herbs" or "chicken soup" or " mushroom soup".. wait what? Oh and lastly.. There are foods I just thought you avoided while keto-ing..like sweetcorn.. Cornflakes.. Soy beans.. Black beans.. Apples.. But recipes in here have those ingredients? I guess you can make them work.. If you eat nothing else that day or eat a small portion?Overall.. A disappointment. A few good ideas but had I seen this in a bookstore in would have tossed it back in the shelf.. And quickly. Take it from me and avoid.. Mine is being returned.

I was super excited for this book to arrive but we will be returning. My biggest issue is that it doesn't state serving sizes. Adjusting for a family of five is easy if I know that information. A lot of typos are in the book. I am giving 2 stars because in the beginning of the book there is good information on the KETO Diet and how the body reacts.

The description of the book says it contains 130+ recipes, the back of the book says over 150, when in fact the book contains just 76!!! Quite a few of the recipes contain ingredients like pineapple, beans, and corn which are NOT Keto! They are also recipes that can be found off Pinterest for Free!! Don't waste your time or money on this book, you will be disappointed!!! Zero stars if I could!!

This cookbook is no way geared for a KETO lifestyle. One of the first recipes calls for sugar, brown sugar and a can of premade biscuit dough. REALLY?! How in any way is that a Keto or low carb recipe? The carb counts are way too high on many of the recipes to fit into any low carb diet. Plus there are many typos throughout the book. I am very disappointed and will be returning it.

I was very excited to get this book, my husband and I have been keto since 2016 and had fallen in a rut of meals. This book is tiny. And half of it is explaining keto which I don’t need to read. The meals are definitely no where near keto, ingredients like beans, corn, and rice are no no’s regardless how little you use. The nutrition information is worthless, the recipe doesn’t state how many servings it makesjust some random net carb counts that I think are extremely exaggerated considering the bad ingredients used. This cookbook is absolutely worthless even for the price. Do Not Buy.

This one is easy to understand! The ketogenic diet is merely a high fat, low carbohydrate diet that involves reducing your intake of carbs and replacing them with fats. The standard ketogenic diet is the most popular diet for beginners, but you may find that the other three menus are better suited to your body and personal goals. Typically, your bodies process the carbohydrate we eat on an average balanced diet by turning it into glucose for energy. Ketones are a byproduct of your fat metabolism that is released when fat is broken down into an energy source. A helpful guide for all. I'm satisfied with this guide. Highly recommended!

Save your money! This book is not 100% keto. Some of the ingredients it uses are not keto at all plus it is very vague when listing ingredients such as "mixed spices 2 tsp or white sauce" but doesn't tell you how to make the so called white sauce or what spices are in the "mixed spices". It tells you to use BBQ sauce, not keto. All in all, it's a great idea but it is not keto and is very misleading for those trying to be successful on a keto diet.

This is an amazing book. The curators of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London have picked treasures from their collection from the 17th century, (1600's) and virtually deconstructed them, included the pattern pieces and lace prickings if necessary, along with period stitches, so you can duplicate it. They show pictures, and then highly closeup details from the picture so you can see every stitch, how many plies in the thread, all that, at important points on the garment. They also go into some detail about the difference between a tailor and a seamstress. The pieces are x-rayed so you can see what went on inside the garment, to see repairs, corrections, etc., as well as fragments of the lace involved if it was metallic. They also include contemporary paintings of the garment discussed, or similar, so you can see it in context. It includes a 'robe', jacket, hat, shoes, supporters for the lace collars that framed the face from the rear, a falling band, all sorts of things. If you need/want to duplicate 17th century women's garments, this is the book for you, along with volume 1.

Fantastic! I bought this book thru Amazon while taking advantage of their special offer of 30% off of the most expensive book in my shopping cart - and this book was it. I have bought other V&A books while visiting the UK back in 2000. I see that the V&A has improved on their books. This book has drawings on garment assembly as well as pattern pieces. Amazing attention to details such as embroidery patterns along with embroidery and sewing stitch instructions. One must remember that the sewing machine did not exists (invented in1750's, 1st sewing machine design in 1790's, not widely used and practical until 1830's) during this period and everything was sewn by hand. Even had a couple of shoes thrown in there. Had instructions on braiding string for a purse or pillow. Had construction and description of a picadil sculpted firm shape that sits behind the neck. Also shown samples and construction of collar supporters. Some garments were X-ray and/or disassembled followed by pattern piece reconstruction and assembly of the piece. I'll study this in more detail over the weekend. Finally a book worth buying!

Many of the articles of clothing are originally described by Janet Arnold.Thiis book contains patterns and assembly notes for a gown in mulberry-colored velvet (it was mostly "recycled" in the 18th or early 19th century), a couple of jackets, bodices, a pair of stays, supporters for flat ruffs, and collars edged with flat lace, A brief discussion of "small articles", such as purses, busks, a hat and shoes round out the book.As with the previous book, the authors have included detailed pictures - including x-rays - of the articles and step-by-step instructions as to how the garments were put together.I am anxiously awaiting the next book on the 18th Century clothing from the V&A collection.

I've been eyeing this book for a while but finally broke down and bought it.. SO glad I did. I haven't tried this era yet but would like to, and this book is going to prove invaluable. It has an excellent balance of examples in era portraiture, many clear photos of the item with detailed captions, even x-rays! The unexpected bonus was the pages of sewing directions, complete with illustrations, for nearly all of the patterns given. There is also an intro chapter on all the types of hand-sewn seams used on the garment, and how to reproduce them. Very detailed.I've only given it a once-over since it arrived in the mail today, but I can tell it's going to become one of the core books of my costume library. I am an intermediate-level seamstress and re-enactor, but for anyone remotely interested in this period or historic fashion, I highly recommend it.

It is clear from the writing that the author is not only knowledgeable, but also very enthusiastic about every word printed.I was expecting an off-the-shelf bird watching field guide, with pictures, stats and identifiers – but this is not this type of book. Instead I got a memoir / guide, which allowed me to appreciate birds more than I ever thought would be possible for me.For a novice like myself, I enjoyed the introductory section which talked about birds that I often see in my back yard. As a technologist, the section of how technology changed ornithology was especially fascinating.Even though bird watching has changed with the times, Mr. Floyd does insist that some things do stay the same. Learn as much as you can and appreciate nature for what it is.

This is a delightful book to keep by your side for a quick read when you have 5 or 10 minutes here or there. To me, it wasn’t the kind of book you sat down and read from cover to cover. It is comprised of a series of essays taken from Birding Magazine.This is not a bird identification book, it offers insights into bird behaviors and into the birding world. The reader will learn about migration patterns, how bird classifications work, why birds came to be named what they are named; I was fascinated to learn that the pileated woodpecker got his name from a Latin word that means felt hat.There are many more interesting tidbits to learn about our avian friends in this handy book. It’s the kind of book you keep by the bed to read a few essays before you go to sleep. As it has no plot there is nothing to keep you from stopping after an essay finishing and you end on a learning note.I received a free copy for my honest review

Although the beautiful cover of Birding magazine editor Ted Floyd's How to Know the Birds may lead you to believe that this will be your typical book about birds, you would be wrong.Many bird books are field guides, with page after page of color photos or drawings of birds, along with short descriptions of what the bird look like and where you find them. Floyd's book is different. He begins by describing the history of birding, referencing the seminal books in the field. It was a quiet, gentle, often solitary study by people with sketchpads, pencils, binoculars and notebooks.Then he takes us into the present, where birding has evolved like most things- people use their smartphones to take photos to upload to numerous Facebook pages devoted to birding. There are apps to help birders organize and connect with other birders. It is much more immediate and social.Floyd introduces us to 200 bird species, each one getting a page but not necessarily a drawing. (There are a small number of beautiful pencil drawings by N. John Schmitt that accompany some of the text.)The contents are divided into six sections, organized by the calendar year, beginning with Spark Bird, which covers January-February. He discusses the birds you will likely find during those months in North America, gives the common name for the bird, such as American Robin, then its scientific name Turdus migratorius, which always capitalizes the first letter of the first name and the second name always begins with a smaller case letter.He gives you a short description of the bird, and interesting fact about the bird that is the title of the page. For the essay titled He Says, She Says, we learn about the Great Horned Owl and the difference between the sounds the male and female makes. In The Upside of Human-Modified Landscapes, he talks about the Canada Goose and how these geese have evolved to "flourish in human-dominated landscapes" living near high-rise office buildings, on golf courses and wreaking havoc near airports.Floyd sprinkles in pop culture references, talking about the movie On Golden Pond in the essay about the Common Loon, or comparing a Star Trek TV series scene to a large nest which holds a tiny Bushtit. He of course mentions the Jack Black/Steve Martin movie The Big Year, perhaps the only movie about birding ever made.The book ends with a helpful checklist of all the birds described by species.How to Know the Birds is really written for the person who enjoys birding as a serious hobby more than for a person looking to get into birding. I learned a lot by reading this book. It contains harsh but a truthful warning.

A study of the American water crisis with a look at how it has been handled in the past, and potential solutions for the future. I was particularly interested in this project because at its center are the problems Texas has with water, and since it is my home for the foreseeable feature, I need to know as much as I can about this problem in this particular geographic setting. Here in Quanah, where my little house is, there’s a drought every winter and crops have difficulty growing. Meanwhile, everybody is familiar with the great flood that drowned Houston last hurricane season. So, water is attacking Texas from all directions, and environmental regulations are particularly loose in this part of the country, so advice is needed to keep the citizens of Texas from drowning themselves. The author, Seamus McGraw, is an award-winning journalist and has published a couple of books on climate change previously. In this project, in addition to standard research methods, McGraw interviewed farmers, ranchers, businesspeople, citizen activists and politicians to gather their opinions and experiences on this issue. The book has suspense written into it, as the narrator prepares readers for a payoff and then goes back and gives historic background, so readers have a reason to read until the end. The payoff in the first chapter is that on August 5, 1969 (in the middle of another drought), Texas voted against a plan that would have re-directed the waters of the Mississippi River into it to satisfy its thirst for water. The rest of the chapter explains how Texas changed from a rural state to one dominated by industry and business around this same time. Most of the chapters have very cryptic names that do not give away their contents easily, like “Dow by Law” and “That’s the Kind of Thinking That Will Get Your Land Took from You.” The latter sounds very Texan, but it is difficult to imagine what this has to do with water. The chapter starts just as mysteriously with: “Maybe it was the way the summer sun glided through the lush leaves of the white oaks, the pecans, the hickories, and the ash on the far bank” (39). This is a very beautiful image, and McGraw continues with descriptions of boys playing, the river, oaks, and the like for a page before he starts arriving at his point: Texans were coming to the Dallas-Fort Worth area for water like they used to come for timber by 2000. The problem mentioned in the chapter title is finally explained at the end of the second page: “even landowners miles removed from the proposed reservoir site could lose control of their land in the process of providing the growing metroplex with affordable water” (40). The chapter includes lengthy dialogues between conflicting sides. It also includes a lengthy speech on the subject with specific numbers and projections. Across the book, there are great illustrations of the impact of various water-related changes on the land.This book would have been improved from a research perspective if it had more subheadings in the chapters that explained what points each section is covering. I would have appreciated if the chapters also had simpler to process titles, so I could more easily find the exact information that might be relevant to a particular research project I am doing. As it stands, it is inviting for casual readers who are interested in a good read or who might be passionate about this issue and in need of some background information. This is definitely a good thing for them. But, anybody who needs the raw data and digested information to figure out what strategies in this book can be of practical use, will just have to slow down and read the whole things to get these bits. It’s not totally inaccessible though as the Index is pretty detailed and includes the names of the main water developments covered. The “Notes” section is pretty light, as it includes articles from newspapers, court documents, development reports, and a few books. Once again, this is definitely not a scholarly, but rather a general interest book. Since a democracy decides Texas’ and the countries’ water policies, there is definitely a greater need for a readable general interest book on this topic like this project, rather than a more intensive scholarly analysis that might be unreadable for almost everybody that actually votes in America.
