This was a book that kept me highly engaged! It was a quick read; however, it was very informative. I have read quite a bit about ancient Mesopotamia, yet this work had some of the most detailed information I have yet read on certain cultural elements (clothes, diet, and gender roles) prevalent in the region. "Chapter 3" is golden! The sections on Babylonian medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and astrology were all interesting; however, the section on the zodiac was revolutionary! It never ceases to amaze me how much the Modern World, often lazily, gives credit to the ancient Greeks. Perhaps this book will put into perspective how much the Greeks learned from those peoples who were ancient even to them. "Chapter 4" to "Chapter 9" offer a scintillating overview of ancient Mesopotamian history. "Chapter 10" displays an overview of Babylonian mythology and "Chapter 11" offers a quick summary of the "Biblical Babylonians." This work is great!

Very interesting appetizer, it leaves you wanting more. This is more of an outline and you'll need to go dig deeper into each subject presented here.

If you love early civilization in the fertile crescent this is a great book. It follows the town Babylon, the city, the city-state, and finally the Babylonian Empire - the third oldest ever. It is a complicated time and region in history. I usually get overloaded trying to read some professor's tome to only give up frustrated. This is pretty concise and easily understood. I am gradually reading all these type of books covering this time period and this region which works great for me also. It beats trying and failing to read something way over my head. Good read that fills in a lot of blanks.

I thought this book was interesting and informative before all I knew about Babylon is what I read in the Bible and the Bible is not really a history book so the information on Babylon is scant and just relates to the Jews. If you read this book you will find their origins, how they grew from a small city or state to an empire, their religion, social structure, etc. So if you want to know more about the Babylonians than what the Bible tells you then this is a good book to read.

These books are & would be a great supplement to world history for the cradle of civilization. And what’s so unique is much of info is in The Bible. Ur, quite possibly the oldest city in existence where Abraham is from is mentioned . Then the Babylonians & Persian & all their contributions to culture. One interesting fact I picked up was the drinking of beer made from barley that helped people get through the day. Just so much information packed into these books makes them an important contribution to the literature of works history . Great job of research by the Captivating History staff. My hat is off to you !!!

So I decided to start at the beginning and bought the whole origins series package just finished it and the next book in line.Believe me when I tell you it grows on you.It sinks into you so you can't wait to read the next one in line.My only worry is that I will eventually catch up and then I will have to wait for the next one to spawn.lol.Dinos, war, space, colonization and empire building... Like the add for prego sauce. ...... " it's in there".

The first books are the slowest, but most defining of the concepts that will ring true for the series. What will keep an empire that will eventually span hundreds of systems, trillions of people, and aliens from internally collapsing into the darkness when challenged? What really makes the trailblazers the leaders that shape Star Force? Rome wasn't built in a day, it's the same with Star Force. To build the empire, you need training. Lots and lots of quality training with some good friends. The adventure will be well worth reading.

From the time I started reading this book, I was enthralled. The story telling is phenomenal and I loved the characters as well as the world they live in. Even being a fictional story, it's still believable in itself and I am excited to read more. Thank you for sharing.

if you are a geologist there are some things you are going to have to let slide, but other than that it is a good read with an interesting premise. the first four books are about the training of a military force designed to protect humanity from a force that abandoned earth 100,000 years ago. while you might think a tale about boot camp is boring you would be wrong. solid physics and interesting ideas about the physical limits you can reach as a soldier keep you interested as they train to become a force outside of government to face a force humanity can't beat. reminiscent of starship trooper, Heinlein's book, not the movie.

This is a great book series the forthought that went into it is astounding the author isn't so much as writing a book as wrighting prologue or a first chapter I think its a bit of a mix really theres not a whole lot of actions in the first few but it picks up in a way that is truly cool books but if your looking for a Empire building series thats still being developed you need to read this

The concept is interesting but the book got bogged down in the details of buildings, spaceports and training.I understand the concepts of teaching the trainees to think and work together.At this speed, this series could outlive me.

Good focus on the plot but after that main character development he disappears into the team and the story, for me, lost direction. It came back together as the story wound down and I will continue the read to find out what develops.

Ms. Segovia-Munoz is wonderfully skilled in portraying the absolute dispair and misery of being a heroin addict. Everything she recounts resonates with me because her account of her life is so similar to mine. I would recommend the Sweet Melissa series to anyone wanting an accurate view and understanding of the power heroin has and how very difficult it is to just walk away from it. It is a must read for anyone thinking of or already experimenting with heroin. Reading this series could save your life oor the life of someone you love. Kudos Ms. Segovia-Munoz on surviving and walking away from heroin hell! Ill forever be a fan!

I ordered this for vacation planning this year and it's been very helpful. Broken into sensible sections and is very comprehensive. Glad I found this resource. Also like the size. It will be easy to take with us. I like the fact that it's written by someone that is obviously very familiar with the area.

I had been a regular buyer of the Lonely Planet travel books. But more and more often, i am finding these Moon series travel books to have a very helpful balance of detail and organization. For each of our past three destination vacation trips we ended up buying and using Moon series books for each of the national parks, and they were very helpful.

This book contains very helpful information. We are making our trip in a couple of days, so I cannot verify all the content as yet, but the book reads very well, and has helped us prioritize how to make the best use of our time. The color photos and numerous maps have allowed me to orient myself ahead of time, and the book is divided nicely into very helpful categories. I would highly recommend this book if you have never been to the Smokey Mountains and are planning a trip.

These Moon books have served us well for trips to the National Parks! They have tons of concise information with lots of photos and tips. Wouldn’t go without one.

We own a vacation rental property near the Smoky Mountain National Park. I purchased this book to keep in the cabin for our guests to enjoy. I think they will love it! Thank you!

What you should come here for is a story of challenges and triumphs from one of contemporary football's most talented players; a man whose friends and family all vouch for his heart of gol and pure intentions, and a story that left me inspired and very proud to be a Mesut Özil fan. There were indeed points that I coudn't distinguish between his personal voice and that of his editors / co-writers (which could have also been lost in transaltion from German to Englsih), and also times when I thought the book read more like a defence of his life against naysayers and the media than an autobiography. However, the sheer inspiration of his story contunually makes up for this and throughout reading you can't help but empathise with Özi's honestly told journey but also feel empowered to gun for greatness in your own life pursuits.

I first saw mesut ozil playing for Germany against Argentina at the Cape Town stadium in fifa 2010 w.c.
